People in the Greenbrier community have gathered around Greenbrier Community School in an incredibly powerful way, showing their excitement and support for the future of this school. We are thrilled to be expanding to add a robust Middle School. We broke ground for this new addition in January 2025 and welcomed students in grades 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th in August 2025!

Please help us raise $850,000 to pay for this new addition!

According to the Census, 93.6% of West Virginians are Caucasian. However, 19% of GCS students are of ethnic origin. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive school for every type of student and family, regardless of their socioeconomic status and family structure. More than 50% of our students are receiving some form of scholarship. Our national standardized testing scores are 30-40% higher annually than WV state averages.

A Vital Resource for the Greenbrier Valley

Since 1999, GCS has been a vital element of the Greenbrier Valley by fostering children’s natural curiosity for exploration and helping every student cultivate a love of learning. We respect students as individuals, as learners, and as contributors. By using Responsive Classrooms and evidence based curricula, we promote personal development, both cognitively and socially while bringing learning to life through differentiated instruction and hands-on projects. Your contribution to this Middle School Capital Campaign will have a lasting impact on students in the Greenbrier Valley for generations to come.

Our History

Originally founded after the Civil War as a free school for African-American children, 113 children had been educated by the Bolling School by 1896. In 2023 we began offering Bolling-Clay Scholarships to any students of ethnic diversity and have awarded 10 scholarships to date.  To honor and recognize the historical significance of the Bolling School, GCS welcomes the community to visit the permanent historical exhibit on the stage in the gymnasium.
