Job Purpose
- To be responsible for the day-to-day education and management of the assigned classand the safety and welfare of the students.
- To promote the mission and vision of the school and maintain its philosophy of education.
- Under the supervision of the Head of School, the Elementary Teacher is responsible for creating an environment that promotes the social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth of the students in their assigned classes
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- To create and manage a caring, supportive, purposeful and stimulating environment which is conducive to children's learning.
- To plan and prepare lessons in order to deliver the curriculum ensuring breadth, depth and balance in all subjects.
- To identify clear teaching objectives and learningoutcomes, with appropriate challenge and high expectations.
- To maintain good order and discipline among students to safeguard their health aundefinednd safety using Responsive Classrooms.
- To organize and manage groups or individual students ensuring differentiation of learning needs, reflecting all abilities.
- To plan opportunities to develop the social, emotional and cultural aspects of students learning.
- To maintain a regular system of monitoring, assessment, record keeping and reporting children’s progress that reflects both formative and summative assessments, portfolios, progress reports, and individualized communication with families and appropriate agencies.
- To ensure effective use of support staff within the classroom, including parents.
- To participate in staff meetings and staff development as required: to be part of a whole school team, actively involved in decision making on the preparation and development of policies and programs of study, teaching materials, resources, methods of teaching and bestundefined practices.
- To ensure that school policies and philosophies are reflected in daily practice.
- To communicate and consult with parents over all aspects of their children’s education - academic, social and emotional.
- To prepare weekly newsletter that keeps the parents and community appraised of classroom activity and announcements.
- To continue professional development, maintaining aportfolio of training undertaken.
Qualifications and Experience
- B.A./B.S.degree, focus in education preferred
- Preference given to applicants with 2+ years classroom experience
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish school goals
