Happy Winter! I hope all of you enjoyed a restful Thanksgiving, however you celebrate all that you are grateful for.  We are back in the classroom for a short three weeks before we finish out the year.  Over these weeks we will be finishing our animal unit studies and moving into our economics unit.  We will be spending time in the Maker’s Space planning projects and gifts for each other as well as making items for our “class store.”  Our economics unit will cover money, supply and demand, and place value. Our class store will help us put these ideas into practice.  When we return from winter break, we will visit the bakery to make a purchase with money to conclude our studies.  I will keep you posted on the dates of this as it gets closer.

We will celebrate the winter holiday in our classroom with a gift exchange and party and as a school we will host Holiday Happenings and the Festival of Light as our closing event before break.  There will be much excitement around the school with the return of Fred the Elf and other festivities.  We will maintain our routine as much aspossible and still make time for enjoying the winter season with some Hygge. Hygge is a Danish/Norwegianword for a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings ofwellness and contentment.  I lovethis approach to enjoying the winter months. You will notice more twinkling lights, blankets, and warm beverages inour room as we bring this practice into the classroom.

I will besending Remind updates for important dates over the course of the next fewweeks as we finalize details of our upcoming holiday events.  Wishing you all a very cozy and contentDecember!

November Newsletter

October 28, 2019 9:04 AM

Hello Forest Families! October has been a great month in our class. We wrapped up our geography studies and enjoyed a visit to Lost World Caverns, a perfect adventure for showing local geography in real time. We have celebrated Halloween and the fall season with a color and nature study (see bulletin board in front of Forest cubbies) and I know how excited the students are for celebrating with their families. In November we will be focusing on animals in our science studies. We will be learning about life cycles, habitats, the five types of animals, predators and prey, and much more. I will confirm our field trip to Greenbrier Humane Society and send dates to you as soon as that is confirmed on their end. This month we will incorporate mindfulness into our daily routines and find ways to express gratitude to those around us. The culmination of our studies this month will include an animal research project and Grandparents/Special Friends Day leading into Thanksgiving Break. I can't believe the holidays are approaching so quickly! We will maintain our routines as much as possible during these exciting times and look forward to the celebrations ahead. Ms. Caroline

October Forest Room News

Reflecting on the last few weeks - we have been very busy adding more challenging work to our Daily 5 and Number Corner components, and with that came a deeper sense of classroom community.
